Yup, Jerry obviously had the urge to do something else at that moment. Would have been a great intro into a pre drums Other one which would have been fun.
Although I saw Phil push it on many occasions actually. The only one he ever sorta got in on him pre-drums in the late era, I believe, was in Philly Fall 89 and that was a complete Other One jam that went into the Other One after D/S.

Just watched this through. Boy, it sure would be interesting to have a recording with the, um, "stage banter" on this one.

If you look at the show comments, here are a few excerpts:

"Jerry seems to be present and interested ..."

"(I also love) the transition from He's Gone to drums ..."

Also says in the comments that there were fireworks from the hotel or parking area afterwards, and the rumor mill said it was Phil. If so, maybe he was trying to wake up Jerry ...

Watching the band in this video sure sheds a different light on things from either listening to the audio or being in the audience. This would be a pretty pleasant He's Gone from '84, and obviously Phil thought it had potential to go somewhere ... but oh well, nothin's gonna bring him back ...

I remember the description in Phil's book about how horrifying it was to be on stage and watch Jerry that summer. This video sure shows it. It's like his feet are super-glued to the stage, and he just nods back and forth. He's like some kind of sad garden gnome, just planted there.
